My Friend Peter, the one-man studio project around multi-instrumentalist and mastermind Benedikt Brands, releases another record on the Viennese label Numavi Records. Shuffle Waffle, Muffle Duffle And Other Stories Volume 1 is a small exquisite collection of 5 purely instrumental pieces that cleverly disregard language as a carrier of meaning without losing any of its lightness and accessibility.

On the contrary: the narrative begins exactly where text is too heavy and bulky, too unambiguous and irretrievable to follow the dynamically overflowing ideas and impulses. Odd meters, playful melodies and weird sounds tell stories from beyond, sometimes in idyllic harmony with each other, sometimes contradictory, sometimes intangibly flowing into each other. In any case, in such a way that you can not listen away and always have to marvel at the turns and twists.

While instrumental pieces in previous productions (SPEAK, March 2020) of My Friend Peter cunningly constructed transitions between album sections as interludes in through-composed album sequences, with Shuffle Waffle, Muffle Duffle And Other Stories Volume 1 a whole purely musical valley away from language is revealed, beautiful and full of surprises.
